Newburgh Community Photo Project Application Deadline


Phoenix Gayle and Vincent Cianni in coordination with Newburgh Community Photo Project (NCPP) presents EveryDay Newburgh, a safe space for teenagers and young adults to develop a wide range of narratives on poverty, water and housing, substance abuse, gender and sexual identities, and other social-political issues affecting their lives to raise awareness through photography and advocacy to become powerful voices in their community. Selection is by application and interview. A select number of teens and young adults in the City of Newburgh will be offered ten (10) free workshops from 10am to 3pm every Saturday from July 7 to September 15, 2018 (except Labor Day weekend) and a $500 stipend.

EveryDay Newburgh and NCPP will provide a healthy and nutritious lunch to workshop participants each week. The workshops are taught by working professionals in the field of photojournalism and documentary photography and will cover technical basics of digital photography, audio, and video as well as visual storytelling, recording interviews, and developing photo essays through instruction, critique, feedback, discussions, presentations, and readings. Cameras will be provided. At the completion of the project, workshop participants will exhibit their work in exhibitions, installations and public art projects opening on September 29, 2018 as part of Newburgh Open Studios.

Each participant will be given a $500 stipend on the successful completion of the workshop and exhibitions.

Participation in the workshops is by application/interview only. Interested applicants should be 16 to 24 years old, a resident of the City of Newburgh, and meet income guidelines as required by ESPRI, the granting body. Early deadline is June 14; early interviews are Saturday, June 16. Final interviews are June 30, 2018. Notification of acceptance will be no later than July 2, 2018. Workshops begin July 7, 2018.
